Metal Cutting Engineer



Tasks and activities 
Metal cutting engineers process parts in single or serial production for machines, devices and systems on conventional or computer controlled tooling machines. They usually bring metallic parts to their required length and thickness, add profiles and cutouts and create large diameter holes by turning. For this type of work they plan production processes, select technologically and economically reasonable tools and create programs for computer-controlled machines. They operate the machines, monitor the production process and check and secure the quality of the parts. They also maintain the machines.

An overview of the training
Metal cutting engineer is a recognized profession that requires training consistent with German law as it pertains to professional training (BBiG). It is not assigned to a specific vocational field.  It is assigned to the field of metal engineering with a focus on production and metal cutting manufacturing methods. 
 
The training term is 3 ˝ years.
